About Us
Winter Moon Roots grows certified organic root vegetables, available November through March. We grow carrots, beets, radishes, turnips, rutabaga, and parsnips on 30 acres in beautiful Hadley, MA.
The farm is owned and Operated by Rosendo Santizo, who worked at Winter Moon Roots for many years with the farm’s founder, Michael Docter.
A Focus on Flavor
We harvest our root vegetables as late in the fall as possible. This exposure to cold fall temperatures results in an accumulation of sugars in the roots and amazing flavor. We choose our varieties for their flavor and tenderness.
Environmentally Conscious
We grow our crops with no pesticides and we take pride in caring for our amazing Hadley soil by minimizing tillage and feeding our soil microbes by planting lush cover crops in every field every year.
We store our harvested crops with a unique storage system that uses cold winter air to cool the crops. The electricity for this system is offset by solar panels on the storage barn roof. This allows us to minimize our carbon footprint while storing our crops at the ideal temperature to stay fresh all winter long.
Since the farm’s inception in 2010, farm founder Michael Docter has delivered roots to local businesses by bike, hauling more than 25,000 lbs of roots each season from Hadley to Northampton.
